Hardware
Autochart runs its models on your graphics card when it can, and on the processor when it can't. Both make the same charts; the graphics card is just a lot faster.
What you need
| Needs | |
|---|---|
| System | Windows x64, macOS on Apple Silicon, or Linux x64. Anything else can use the browser version. |
| Memory | 16 GB is best. With 8 GB, close other apps and tabs before charting. |
| Graphics card | Optional, but much faster. Any card with WebGPU support, or an NVIDIA card with CUDA. |
| Disk | About 1.2 GB for Fretformer 2, plus room for your projects. |
Hardware mode
Set in Settings → Performance. Default: Automatic.
| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| Automatic | Tries the graphics card through WebGPU, and uses the processor if that can't start. |
| WebGPU | Uses the graphics card through WebGPU. Works with most recent cards, including on Mac. |
| CUDA | Uses an NVIDIA card through CUDA. Windows and Linux only, and needs NVIDIA's CUDA and cuDNN installed. |
| CPU | Uses only the processor. Slowest, but works everywhere. |
Leave it on Automatic unless something goes wrong.
When the graphics card fails
If the graphics card can't start, the take runs on the processor instead and says so when it's done. Some older cards can't use WebGPU at all, so they always end up on the processor.
If a take fails partway on the graphics card, Autochart offers Retry using CPU. That runs the same song and settings on the processor, without changing your hardware mode.
Speed
Separating the song into its instruments is the slowest step, and it runs once per song: later takes reuse it and start much sooner. If separating is going to take more than twice the song's length, Autochart offers Lite, which skips that step.
On the processor, try a short song first to see how long yours takes.
In the browser
The browser version reaches the graphics card through the browser's WebGPU. Chrome and Edge do this best; see Which browser. The Start page shows what it found: your graphics card, memory, and what charting will run on. Settings → Performance has the same modes, without CUDA.
Diagnostics
Settings → Diagnostics shows your system, graphics card, memory and the model files. Check files checks every model file against its checksum. If any are damaged, Repair in Settings → Models downloads only those. Include what it shows when you report a problem.
