Troubleshooting
Common problems and what to do about them, roughly in the order you'd meet them.
The app won't open
Windows and macOS warn about apps that aren't signed by Microsoft or Apple. Install has the steps for each system: More info → Run anyway on Windows, Open Anyway on macOS, and chmod +x for the Linux AppImage.
The model download stopped
Press Try again. Files that already finished are kept, so only the rest downloads. If the drive is full, free some space or pick another folder with Change location.
If a model says it's damaged or needs repair, press Repair in Settings → Models. Only the damaged files download again.
It's using the processor, not my graphics card
- Desktop: check the hardware mode in Settings → Performance. If it's on Automatic and still uses the processor, your card may not support WebGPU; some older cards don't. Updating your graphics drivers can help. With an NVIDIA card, CUDA is another option.
- Browser: the browser may not reach your graphics card. Chrome and Edge work best; Firefox needs WebGPU turned on. See Which browser.
Out of memory
Charting a long song uses a lot of memory, especially with 8 GB or less. Close other apps and browser tabs and try again. If it keeps happening, try a shorter song, or switch hardware mode to CPU. In the browser, the desktop app handles long songs better.
Separating takes forever
Separating the song is the slowest step, and it's much slower on the processor. If it's on track to take more than twice the song's length, Autochart offers Lite, which skips separating. It finishes much sooner but follows the guitar less closely.
A song won't open
- A Clone Hero song folder needs a
notes.chartand the song's audio. Songs with only anotes.midcan't be opened yet. - In the browser, some formats can't be decoded. Try an MP3, OGG, FLAC or WAV.
- In the browser, open one song at a time. The desktop app can import many at once.
The video won't play
The desktop app makes a playable copy of videos it can't show, such as HEVC phone videos, in the background. Give it a moment. In the browser, some video formats can't play; the audio still works, and the desktop app can convert them.
The chart is off
- The opening is messy: if music starts right at 0:00, add a second or two of lead-in silence.
- The end is empty: very long or fast songs can hit the model's limit. Check the ending, and inpaint or edit it.
- It misses a part: make another take, or try another separation. Every take comes out different.
- One section is wrong: inpaint it instead of starting over.
- The beat is off: timing is found once per song, so a new take keeps it. Changing the lead-in silence finds it again, and turning off Smoothing in More settings uses the raw beats.
Takes won't combine in the final chart
"Final chart needs one shared beatmap" (or "shared source audio") means the takes in the final chart were made with different timing or a different lead-in. Use takes made with the same settings, or make the missing difficulties again. Takes from Autochart 0.1.0 can't be combined with new ones. See Rules.
The song isn't in the game
Rescan your songs in Clone Hero or YARG. Check that Clone Hero / YARG songs in Settings → Folders is the same folder your game reads.
Reporting a problem
Open an issue on GitHub with your system, the Autochart version (at the bottom of the sidebar), what you did and what happened. A screenshot of Settings → Diagnostics helps. A song that charts badly is worth reporting too: say which song and which part.
